Wish Makers at Bama, the University’s chapter of Make-A-Wish America, will hold its first Make-A-Wish reveal April 17. The wish granted will be a trip for a 4-year-old girl, Angel, and her family to Disney World.
Emma Woeber, president and founder of Wish Makers at Bama, said she got the idea of forming the student organization from when her high school raised $3,000 for a trip to Disney World that was later canceled.
“That’s when we came across Make-A-Wish,” Woeber said. “We got to grant our wish and do that our senior year, and I really loved it.”
The organization has raised the $10,000 needed to grant the wish through fundraising events. Woeber said her favorite event was “splash an athlete,” where students paid $5 to throw a water balloon at Tyler Booker, offensive lineman for the Crimson Tide.
“Wish Makers at Bama has poured countless hours and unwavering dedication into raising money,” said Jodie James, development manager of Make-A-Wish Alabama. “And now it has all come together in the most powerful way — helping Make-A-Wish Alabama grant a life-changing wish.”
Make-A-Wish Alabama and 59 other chapters throughout the United States have granted more than 330,000 wishes nationwide.
