Ignite, the new arts and sciences center at the Saban Center, announced a national search for an executive director.
The executive director will sit under the Ignite Board of Directors and will be responsible for “leadership, strategic direction, and oversight for all aspects of the museum.”
“We are looking for a visionary leader who shares our passion for inspiring and engaging the next generation through hands-on learning and future-focused experiences,” said Liz Obradovich, Ignite board chair. “This is an exciting opportunity to shape the future of learning in a dynamic, state-of-the-art environment.”
Candidates should have a background in museum studies, a STEM education and experience in museum management according to a press release.
Formerly the Children’s Hands-On Museum, Ignite will feature several exhibits focused on science, art, and athletics and serve as the Alabama hub for opportunities in science, technology, engineering, math and arts.
“The Saban Center’s strength lies in the powerful partnerships uniting to create unparalleled opportunities for our children,” Saban Center Director Audrey Buck said. “From the Saban family to community organizations, educators, industry leaders, and the State of Alabama, this collaboration is shaping a one-of-a-kind campus that will redefine the future of education and innovation.”
The Saban Center is set to open in June 2027 at the site of the old Tuscaloosa News building.
“We look forward to welcoming the executive director of Ignite, who will be instrumental in driving this vision forward,” Buck said.
