University President Stuart Bell was declared a finalist for the role of chancellor at Texas A&M Feb. 24. He announced in January that he would be stepping out of the president role and looks forward to a “future return to the faculty” at the end of July.
Bell graduated from Texas A&M in 1979 with a bachelor’s in nuclear engineering where he later obtained a master’s and Ph.D. in the same field. According to The Battalion, Texas A&M’s student newspaper, Bell was declared as one of five finalists along with Texas Comptroller Glenn Hegar, Texas A&M Foundation President Tyson Voelkel, state Rep. Trent Ashby and U.S. Rep. Michael McCaul.
If selected, Bell would replace the current chancellor, John Sharp, who announced last July he would retire on June 30. He has served in the role since September 2011.
As of publication, Texas A&M has not yet announced its new chancellor.
