The Tuscaloosa City Council approved Rolf’s Cafe and Bistro’s applications for an occupancy increase and a restaurant retail liquor license on Tuesday.
Rolf Meyer, owner of Rolf’s Cafe and Bistro, said he experiences customer overflow multiple days a week, which is what led him to rent a space beside his existing business in order to increase the capacity from 16 to 99.
The liquor license was approved for operating hours, 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Tuesdays and Wednesdays, 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Thursdays and Saturdays, and 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. on Fridays.
The council then moved on to authorize minor public works contracts with various companies, including Building Specialties Company Inc., K&A Inc., Patrick Allen Companies LLC and Overhead Door of Tuscaloosa.
Additionally, the council authorized the chief financial officer to draw a draft for the neighborhood drainage protective purchase of 2205 13th Street, a property that has been perennially flooded.
“Very happy to see this. It’s needed,” said Kip Tyner, president of the city council and a member for District 5 who presided over the meeting due to Mayor Walt Maddox’s absence.
Scott Holmes, the city attorney, called for a recess to last until March 11 at noon. Following the recess, the city council will reconvene to canvas the votes from the 2025 municipal election Tuesday.
