The Student Government Association hosted a T-shirt swap on Sept. 26 in an effort to celebrate and unite the diverse backgrounds of transfer students.
From 12-4 p.m., transfer students gathered in front of the SGA office to exchange their previous school shirts for an SGA-themed shirt. This event allowed transfer students to connect with one another and learn more about The University of Alabama.
“Events like the transfer student T-shirt swap are important because they help make a more inclusive and welcoming university community,” said Maddie Kurtz, an SGA Engagement Committee member
“By swapping shirts from their previous schools with a shirt from SGA, [it] symbolizes their transition and acceptance into their new school,” Kurtz said. “It is also a fun way to promote SGA.”
The University of Alabama and SGA are constantly promoting clubs and ways to get involved on campus. The Capstone Wellness Explorer program is one such example, and its kickoff event is on Thursday.
“It [The Capstone Wellness Explorer Program] is a great opportunity to meet the SGA, connect with on-campus organizations, watch performances, and get some popcorn, pizza and shaved-ice,” said Alex Cheng, director of engagement on the SGA executive cabinet.
SGA is hosting new events every week to welcome students to the campus and help students build connections and friendships, meet new people, and celebrate diverse surroundings.
