Tony Mitchell and Charles Hankerson, Jr. will not return to the Alabama men’s basketball team next season, according to a team release. Mitchell and Hankerson, Jr. both requested and were granted a release from their scholarship.
“We’re appreciative of the contributions they’ve made to our program and we wish them nothing but the absolute best as they pursue the next chapter of their lives and careers,” head coach Anthony Grant said in the release.
Mitchell led the team in scoring with 13.1 points per game, but was suspended indefinitely for conduct detrimental to the team on Feb. 6. It was later announced that Mitchell would not return for the remainder of the season.
Hankerson, Jr. appeared in 30 of the Tide’s 33 games last season, but the emergence of freshmen Rodney Cooper, Levi Randolph and Nick Jacobs along with the return of Andrew Steele limited his playing time.
