ABOUT
The Crimson White is the student-run, editorially independent newspaper at The University of Alabama. First published in 1894, The Crimson White celebrated its 130th anniversary in 2024. The paper is named for the school colors of the University.
The newspaper was originally a weekly publication, but eventually grew to a four-day-a-week print schedule by the 1980s. In 2015, the CW moved to a twice-weekly print format. Regular print publications ceased with the onset of COVID-19 in March 2020. The publication shifted to twice weekly email newsletters with special print editions being published about eight times each year.
The Crimson White has won countless awards over the years, including the Associated Collegiate Press’ Pacemaker Award in 1977, 2015, and 2019, the highest award in collegiate journalism.
The Crimson White is housed within the Office of Student Media at The University of Alabama. The editor-in-chief is selected each spring by the Media Planning Board, a UA standing committee.
