Tuscaloosa Forward, a strategic community plan to renew and rebuild, has planned a public workshop on Thursday, June 30 from 6 to 8:30 p.m. at the Bryant Conference Center for citizens to share ideas on how to rebuild tornado-impacted areas and establish a long-term vision for the city of Tuscaloosa.
Transportation will be provided at the former Locklear Dodge site, the Leland Shopping Center and University Place Elementary to assist those impacted by the storm.
Tuscaloosa Mayor Walt Maddox said rebuilding could ultimately take years, and the most difficult part will be coming up in the next few months in terms of debris removal and putting together a master plan in terms of zoning and building regulations.
“We’ve got to figure out a way, in these areas that have been impacted, to put together a comprehensive plan that allows for high-quality development in a way that shows the progress of the city,” he said. “It doesn’t mean it’s going to be easy though.”
