Lukas Ligeti, an Austrian composer and percussionist specializing in unconventional and often improvisational methods of music-making, will perform a free concert at Alabama Art Kitchen May 3 at 7 p.m. Ligeti’s recent drum tour is in honor of his new album, PATTERN TIME, released April 26 for purchase.
Drawing upon radical sounds and African-inspired rhythms, Ligeti has combined various music styles such as jazz, electronic and contemporary classical music to create a sound reverberating with all of the feelings of downtown New York experimentalism with heavy African influences. Ligeti will be performing solo pieces as well as some duets with Andrew Raffo Dewar, Assistant Professor of Interdisciplinary Arts in New College and the School of Music at the University.
