Abby Armbrecht’s dream career comes to a close
April 20, 2019
Alabama gymnast Abby Armbrecht earned All-American honors to close her collegiate career at the NCAA Championships in Fort Worth, Texas on Friday.
Though the team’s season ended on April 6 at the Ann Arbor Regional, Armbrecht advanced as an individual event specialist on the floor exercise.
The senior scored a 9.9125 on the final routine of her career, the fifth straight meet her floor routine earned a 9.9 or above.
“Abby really blossomed throughout her career, and this was a true storybook ending for her,” UA head coach Dana Duckworth said in a press release. “She came in as a shy young woman, who followed her heart to her dream school and, four years later, was able to end her career with an exclamation point with the most beautiful routine of her career, with the most difficulty of her career. It was such a joyous experience being able to watch her do that routine with so much passion, representing the script A and her teammates in that moment.”
The Mobile, Alabama, native was named an All-American on the heels of her seventh-place finish in the floor exercise in the afternoon session. She was the only individual competitor in the first session to earn All-American honors.
Armbrecht has previously also garnered Scholastic All-America, All-SEC and SEC Academic Honor Roll honors. She graduated with a bachelor’s degree in marketing last spring and is on track to earn her master’s degree in digital and social media marketing this May.
“I’m just glad that I got to finish out on a strong note and represent Alabama really well,” Armbrecht said.
