Preview: Science and Religion

Shahriyar Emami, Staff Reporter

WHAT:  The event is a conversation to discuss the compatibility of scientific evidence with the existence of God.

WHO: Mike Strauss, doctor of physics, researcher at the European Organization for Nuclear Research (CERN) and professor at the University of Oklahoma

WHEN: Wednesday, Nov. 7, 7 p.m., doors open at 6 p.m.

WHERE: Moody Music Building (810 2nd Ave)

WHY:

Strauss does research in CERN, the largest particle physics lab in the world. He also has a YouTube channel and website and is the general editor of the Dictionary of Christianity and Science.

“You can be an intellectual person and have a logical belief in God,” Strauss said.

Strauss said he wants to challenge students’ thinking.

“I want them to take away the idea that in fact these two realms of science and Christianity have lots of overlap and that they actually are both realms that have truth claims that can be investigated and that those truth claims do not contradict each other but are quite compatible with each other,” Strauss said.

Attendees will be able to buy Strauss’ new book, “The Creator Revealed,” at the event. The event is open to the public.

A live Q & A will follow Strauss’ talk.
