No. 1 Alabama defeated Missouri 39-10, but it came with a toll. Quarterback Tua Tagovailoa, who left early in the third quarter because of a knee injury, and DeVonta Smith, who left with about six minutes left in the first half, were held out the rest of the  game because of injuries.

Play of the game: Early in the second quarter, Missouri quarterback Drew Lock took a third-down snap in his own territory. Alabama defensive lineman Isaiah Buggs forced his way through the Tiger offensive line, sacked Lock for a loss of 18 yards, and forced a fumble. Outside linebacker Anfernee Jennings recovered the fumble at the Missouri 13-yard-line and Alabama scored on the next play.

Notes:

• On the second play of the game, Jerry Jeudy got open on a post route and Tua Tagovailoa hit him perfectly in stride. Jeudy outraced everyone to the end zone for Alabama’s seventh consecutive opening-drive touchdown of the season and the longest pass of Tagovailoa’s career.
• Saivion Smith intercepted Missouri quarterback Drew Lock on his first pass of the game and returned it 33 yards. Alabama kicker Joseph Bulovas made a 30-yard field goal four plays later.
• The Crimson Tide reached into its bag of tricks late in the first quarter, with Jalen Hurts receiving a handoff from Tagovailoa and throwing downfield. On the next play, Tagovailoa completed a pass to Hurts, the second catch of the junior quarterback’s career.
• Missouri quarterback Drew Lock threw a 20-yard touchdown pass to running back Jalen Knox on the penultimate play of the first quarter after standing in the pocket for several seconds.
• Tight end Irv Smith Jr. caught his fourth touchdown pass of the year early in the second quarter, a 2-yarder from Tagovailoa. That extended the Alabama lead to 20-10.
• Four plays later, on the first play after a Lock fumble, Tagovailoa hit DeVonta Smith for a 13-yard score.
• Several key Alabama offensive players left the game with injuries. DeVonta Smith went to the locker room after a 57-yard gain down the sideline. Tagovailoa took a while to get up after a third-quarter slide and spent a lengthy period of time in the medical tent. Henry Ruggs also limped off the field midway through the third quarter and did not re-enter the game. Smith returned to the sideline in street clothes and Ruggs went back in the game to close out the third.
