PRACTICE REPORT: Alabama holds final practice before season opener

A 15-minute downpour forced Alabama’s Wednesday afternoon practice indoors to the Hank Crisp Indoor Facility. Here are some observations from the shorter-than-usual viewing period:

The running backs held one football in each arm as they crouched beneath a bar and rapidly stepped in between a series of pads. Just like Monday, Najee Harris looked fine.

After briefly warming up within their individual position groups, the quarterbacks and outside wide receivers worked on timing and route-running. DeVonta Smith and Henry Ruggs III were at the front of the two lines. Smith was followed by Tyrell Shavers and freshman Xavier Williams while Ruggs was followed by Derek Kief and Xavian Marks.

The defensive backs were also organized into two lines. They backpedaled in pairs, shuffled based on a coach’s movements, and then reacted to passes, both accurate and inaccurate. Shyheim Carter and Trevon Diggs were the first pair, Deionte Thompson and Xavier McKinney were the second, and Saivion Smith and Jared Mayden were the third.

Defensive lineman Stephon Wynn Jr. remained in a black non-contact jersey and left practice at the beginning of the viewing period.
