After being granted a release from his letter of intent to the University of Washington, former five-start linebacker Brandon “Ale” Kaho has committed to play for Alabama, according to a report by 247Sports.

Since there were no restrictions on his release and Kaho had not yet officially enrolled at Washington, it is likely that he is eligible to enroll at Alabama and can begin practicing for his freshman season immediately.

Kaho, who is from Reno, Nevada, signed with Washington last November during the early signing period. His decision to leave the Huskies was, according to the Seattle Times, based on a desire to be near his family amid a divorce and two recent deaths.

“[Kaho’s] family was really adamant that he’s going through some stuff and wants to be closer to his family,” Washington head coach Chris Petersen said after granting the release on Monday. “We get that, we want to do the right thing and we wish him the best.”

According to 247Sports, Kaho could leave for Tuscaloosa as early as Wednesday night. Ranked No. 133 overall in the class of 2018 in 247Sports’ composite ranking, he immediately helps fortify an inside linebacker corps seriously devoid of depth.

The Crimson Tide has been plucking outside linebackers, namely Christian Miller and Christopher Allen, to see if they could contribute at inside linebacker in a pinch. Perhaps landing the 6-foot-1, 218-pound Kaho will reduce the team’s need to do so.
