Classic Shakespeare meets modern high school romance in the Hudson Strode Program’s presentation of “10 Things I Hate About You.” Heath Ledger and Julia Stiles star in this 1999 adaptation of Shakespeare’s “The Taming of the Shrew.”
“10 Things I Hate About You” will be shown tonight at the Bama Theatre. The showing will begin at 7:30 p.m and end at 9:30 p.m. Admission is free and open to any lovers of Shakespeare and modern romantic comedies.
This film is the second installment in the Shakespeare Film Series. The Series plays a Shakespeare-themed film twice a semester at the Bama Theatre. The upcoming film follows the Oct. 16 showing of “Titus.”
According to the organizer of the Series, Dr. Marvin Sasser, “Titus” was shown as a film meant to challenge the audience with “10 Things I Hate About You” following as a crowd-pleaser.
The Hudson Strode Program is a part of the Renaissance Studies in the English Department at the University of Alabama. It promotes the study of English literature ranging from Skelton to Milton. The program is open to graduate students studying to get their Master’s degree or Ph.D’s.
Following the Nov. 11 showing of “10 Things I Hate About You”, the Shakespeare Film Series will be presenting the documentary “Still Dreaming” on Feb. 23.
