The American Association of University Women (AAUW) and the Career Center will host a Start Smart workshop to help college women develop salary negotiation skills.
The event is co-sponsored by The University of Alabama’s chapter of AAUW.
What: “It is a salary negotiation workshop for college women,” said Paige Miller, coordinator of the Women and Gender Resource Center. “So when college women are about to graduate and go into the workforce, this workshop will teach them how to negotiate their salary and benefits so that they get a fair package.”
Who: The workshop is targeted to college women, but is open to everyone.
When: Tuesday, Sept. 19 from 5 – 7:30 p.m. Light refreshments served.
Where: The Career Center, 3400 Ferguson Center.
Why: AAUW has done extensive research that shows women don’t negotiate their salaries as often as men do, Miller said. This workshop teaches the proper skills to enable women to be able to negotiate effectively and empowers them with the skills to close the pay gap.
“The workshop gives tangible negotiation skills,” Miller said.
