As a new student you might be apprehensive about beginning life at college. Don’t worry, because the University has a slate of events planned for the start of the fall semester designed to acclimate freshmen to the environment of campus. Movie on the Quad
This event is an annual tradition that takes place after move-in on August 19. This year’s film will be the critically acclaimed “La La Land.” There will be food vendors as well as free popcorn, drinks and snacks. The movie will begin at 7 p.m.
The Amazing Race 2.0
A competition featuring three challenges, The Amazing Race 2.0 is designed to help students get to know the University better and will take place on August 20. Freshmen will participate in events in groups of four, and each activity corresponds to a different aspect of student life. The Amazing Race 2.0 will begin on the Quad at 7 p.m and conclude at the Ferguson Center Plaza at 10 p.m.
Yea, Alabama!
Starting August 21, Yea, Alabama is a series of activities required for all freshmen. It begins at 11 a.m on the Quad with a kick-off barbecue event. Students will then break into small groups for the rest of the day. The next day will culminate with Convocation, a pep rally designed to serve as your formal induction into The University of Alabama community. It will take place from 6 p.m to 8 p.m. at Bryant-Denny Stadium and feature Crimson Tide coaches and cheerleaders. This is the inaugural year of Yea, Alabama. New students will receive more information and register for the event after you move into your residence hall.
Welcome Back Breakfast
To start your first day of class, enjoy some free Chick-Fil-A from 7 a.m. to 9 a.m at the Ferguson Student Center. The Welcome Back Breakfast will be available on both August 23 and 24.
Get on Board Day
You can’t miss Get on Board Day. It will take place on August 31 at the Ferguson Plaza area and feature 550 organizations from the campus and the community. Many groups will be handing out free stuff, and it’s also a great way to find a club to get involved in outside of classes. Get on Board Day runs from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m.
