Warring factions of the Republican Party began to assign blame after their plan to repeal and replace ObamaCare failed to come to a vote on the House floor. Championed by Speaker Paul Ryan and President Donald Trump, the American Health Care Act angered people on the political left and right and could not gain a coalition on which to receive a majority.

Fingers in the White House have pointed at the conservative Freedom Caucus and Democrats, both of whom refused to support the GOP leadership’s bill. House conservatives rejected the bill for not providing what they saw as a legitimate alternate option to ObamaCare, but Democrats saw the plan as unfairly taking health coverage away from low-income individuals. 

On the flip side, conservative interest groups place blame on Speaker of the House Paul Ryan for failing to fulfill the campaign promise to fully repeal ObamaCare. 

Members of the Freedom Caucus and conservative senators across The Hill torched leadership for a rushed and incomplete bill. “I think the [American Healthcare Act] was written by the same people that wrote Obamacare,” said Rep. Thomas Massie, R-Kentucky. “That’s why it looks so similar.”
