The standoff between police and an assault suspect at Dreamland Bar-B-Que in Northport was peacefully resolved after two hours on Friday night. Northport Police and David Barker, 36, dug in around 7 p.m., during which time employees and diners inside the restaurant stayed safe.
According to WVUA23, the incident originally began Thursday night when Northport police responded to an assault call from a home on Swallow Lane. The 33-year-old woman, who sustained injuries from being beaten by Barker, was taken to DCH Regional Medical Center.
It was not until Friday night that a homicide investigator found Barker in a stolen vehicle, which Barker then drove to the parking lot of Dreamland. Barker refused to get out of the car and at one point brandished a knife at officers.
WVUA23 reported that Northport police were able to successfully negotiate with Barker and got him to exit his vehicle without harming anyone.
Barker is being held on a $100,000 bail at the Tuscaloosa County Jail and faces charges of domestic violence, kidnapping and theft.
