The week’s proposed SGA Senate resolutions Thursday night concerned football ticket donations, beverage lines at football games and the Afro-American Gospel Choir.
Senator Jonathan Thompson authored three resolutions presented to the senate.
“The first resolution honored new inductees to the Alabama Business School Hall of Fame, something that’s going on right now at the Bryant Conference Center,” Thompson said. “The second resolution I introduced was to give focus to next week being Academic Integrity Week. The third resolution I introduced had to do with putting focus on the off-campus housing fair because it’s an opportunity for students to find out more about properties off campus.”
Senator Ebony Smith presented a resolution in support of the Afro-American Gospel Choir.
“The resolution was encouraging students and faculty to attend the Afro-American Gospel Choir’s annual Parent Appreciation concert,” Smith said. “We really want students to come out. The Afro-American Gospel Choir will be celebrating its 40th anniversary here at the Capstone and the celebration will commence with the parent appreciation concert on Sunday.”
Smith also elaborated on the fact that the choir will be celebrating its 40th anniversary. The event will take place on Sunday, Oct. 17, 2010 at 4 p.m. in the Ferguson Center Theatre.
Senator Ryan Flamerich authored a resolution with Smith regarding beverage lines at football games in Bryant-Denny Stadium.
“Partnering with Centerplate, who’s the company who operates those concession stands in the stadium, we’re going to create a number of drink-only lines, so that students can just go there, order a drink, get their drink, pay immediately and it’ll be a much quicker experience for people during the game,” Flamerich said.
Flamerich explained that there will be a trial run this Saturday at the Ole Miss game. If successful, the beverage-only line could go into full effect next football season.
Senators Alan Rose and Sophie Santos authored a resolution concerning student football tickets. The resolution insisted students update their mobile contact information on myBama so they will be able to receive recorded messages alerting them of a received donated football ticket. The resolution was proposed with hopes of less students facing penalization.
Rose and Jeff Elrod had a resolution regarding welcoming T. Boone Pickens, which was passed. Pickens will be at a forum speaking on the U.S. energy policy.
“This is a great way for students to learn about what’s going on and what they can do to get involved either on a volunteer basis or if they’re getting ready to graduate they can have somewhere to go once they receive their diploma,” Elrod said.
At the meeting, the senate also released the revised SGA Code of Laws. Included in the updated Code of Laws are all of the bills passed last year and some that were passed in August and September.
