Alabama soccer improved to 4-0 Sunday, when junior Lacey Clarida scored in the opening moments of the second half to give the team a 1-0 win over Chattanooga Mocs (1-3) in Chattanooga, Tennessee. This is the second time in the last 15 years Alabama has started out the season with at least four straight victories, with the other being in 2012.
Alabama dominated the game right from the opening kickoff, outshooting the Mocs 12-1 in the first half with three of those shots being on target. Even though the team had such high shot totals, the Crimson Tide were unable to produce a first half goal.
Alabama’s attack came out clicking in the second half, and the team was rewarded when Clarida found the back of the net off of a cross from sophomore Abbie Boswell in the 47th minute. Clarida now brings her goal total to six on the season, while Boswell improves her assist total to five for the year. It was also the third time this season Clarida has recorded a game-winning goal.
Junior Kat Stratton recorded her fourth straight win at the goalkeeper position, and the team tallied its third shutout in just four games. Alabama led the shot totals by a wide margin with 18 (seven on target) to just three (two on target) by the Mocs.
Next up for the Crimson Tide will be a road trip to Tampa, Florida, to take on South Florida, the No. 23-ranked team in the country at 6 p.m. CT.
