Non-stop panels and events, prestigious awards, and the chance to see passion, creativity and hours of hard work on the silver screen.
This is what awaits student filmmakers and attendees alike this weekend as The University of Alabama Telecommunication and Film Department hosts the fourth annual Black Warrior Film Festival on Feb. 26 and 27. According to the festival website, the schedule of events includes opportunities for attendees to learn more about the filmmaking industry through panels, Q&A sessions and other events throughout the weekend. The festival will screen short films submitted by students from universities across the Southeast all day Saturday and culminate in an awards ceremony at 8 p.m. All events are free and open to the public.

Friday Feb. 26
Filmmaker Check-In at the Ferguson Center Ballroom, 12- 2 p.m.
Q&A with Sean Davé at Gorgas 205, 3- 4 p.m.
UA alumnus Sean Davé will answer questions about directing and finding a job in the film industry. Davé is a former Black Warrior Film Festival award winner and is best known for directing the movie video for Pentatonix’s cover of “Cheerleader” by OMI.
An Evening with Mitch Levine at the Dinah Washing Cultural Arts Center 7- 8:30 p.m.
Students will have the opportunity to meet and mingle with filmmaker and festival consultant Mitch Levine, best known for his short films “Shadows,” “In Confidence,” and “Morphing Gravity.” Levine will answer questions and share industry knowledge and advice about filmmaking and festivals worldwide.
Saturday Feb. 27
Aspiring Filmmakers Workshop Screening at the Ferguson Center Theater, 10- 11 a.m.
This event will feature several of the films from the Aspiring Filmmakers Workshops which took place over the past month. The Black Warrior Film Festival and Telecommunication and Film Department hosted this two-day workshop for local Tuscaloosa students in 5th through 10th grade to promote filmmaking and help young students develop essential industry skills. Faculty members and student mentors from the Telecommunication and Film Department led the students through development, writing, filming, and post-production as they created their own short films.
Brunch at the Ferguson Center Great Hall, 11- 12 p.m.
Film Block One at the Ferguson Center Theater, 12-1 p.m.
Film Block Two at the Ferguson Center Theater, 1- 2 p.m.
Panel: Storytelling Through Film at AIME 110, 2- 3 p.m.
This panel will feature faculty members Dr. Wendy Rawling, Nick Corrao, Alan Lazer, who represent the English, Telecommunication and Film, and Blount Undergraduate Initiative departments, respectively. Filmmaker Mitch Levine will also serve on the panel hosted by Dewpoint.
Film Block Three at the Ferguson Center Theater, 3- 4 p.m.
Panel: Women in Film at AIME 110, 4- 5 p.m.
This panel centered on the role of women in film and filmmaking will feature faculty members Dr. Kristen Warner and Dr. Barbara Brickman, who represent the Telecommunication and Film Department and New College. It will be hosted by the UA Feminist Caucus and the Student Leadership Council of Women & Gender Resource Center.
Film Block Four at the Ferguson Center Theater, 5- 6 p.m.
This film block is open to mature audiences only.
Dinner, 6- 7:30 p.m.
Award Ceremony at the Ferguson Center Theater, 8 p.m.
The ceremony will close the festival by honoring the best films of the weekend and distributing awards to chosen filmmakers.
