A University of Alabama student died Friday in an explosion at Palo Duro Canyon State Park in Texas, The Crimson White has learned.
Peyton Trueblood of Mobile, a senior majoring in theatre, was working as a stage manager on the show “Texas” at the Pioneer Amphitheatre in Canyon, Texas. According to The Amarillo Globe-News, Trueblood was taking inventory in a warehouse containing fireworks for the outdoor musical when an explosion occurred shortly before 6 p.m.
Trueblood was a member of the Alpha Psi Omega national theatre honors society. The Gamma Gamma cast, located at The University of Alabama, released the following statement via its Facebook page.
“Today, Alpha Psi Omega must mourn the tragic loss of one of our sisters,” the statement reads. “Peyton Trueblood was an incredible and talented young woman, and she will be dearly missed. Our thoughts and prayers go out to Peyton’s family.”

Dr. David Grady, vice president for student affairs, issued the following statement Sunday morning:
“We were deeply saddened to hear of Peyton Trueblood’s death in a tragic accident,” Grady said in the emailed statement. “Our thoughts and prayers are with her friends and family.”
