Alabama cornerback Cyrus Jones was arrested early Wednesday morning on two counts of third degree domestic violence.
On Friday, Tuscaloosa Police issued a media release stating it requested the Office of City Attorney dismiss all charges against Jones. According to the release, “although sufficient probable cause existed for both offenses, the dismissal is based on the fact that Mr. Jones in fact attempted to deescalate the situation by contacting the Tuscaloosa Police Department.”
According to the Tuscaloosa Police arrest report, officers responded to a call around 10:20 p.m. on Tuesday. Officers spoke to both parties involved and witnesses. The release said Jones “had taken and damaged the victim’s cell phone earlier in the day and threatened to assault her in front of a witness.”
Jones was arrested for domestic violence third degree criminal mischief and domestic violence third degree harassment. He was transported to Tuscaloosa County Jail pending $1,000 bond and a mandatory 12-hour domestic violence hold.
“We don’t ever condone any behavior that shows any kind of disrespect,” Alabama coach Nick Saban said in a statement Wednesday. “There was no physical contact in this situation. Once we get the facts, we will take the necessary steps to correct this behavior in the future.”
As a junior in 2014, Jones had three interceptions, two forced fumbles, 46 total tackles and a team-leading 13 pass breakups.
