Athletic Director Bill Battle announced March 15 that Alabama basketball coach Anthony Grant will not be retained as coach, naming John Brannen interim coach of the team. Brannen was the associate head coach at the University and spent nine years as an assistant under former Tide head coach Anthony Grant. Under Brannen’s leadership, the team beat No. 3 seed Illinois 79-58 in the first round of the NIT Tournament in Tuscaloosa before falling to No.1 Miami 73-66 in the tournament’s second round.
