Tide Together boot camp helps to prepare students for grad school
This Friday, the University of Alabama’s Graduate School will be hosting session two of its Tide Together boot camp. Where they give beneficial learning tools that participants may need to know as a graduate student.
Kia Boyd, Tide Together coordinator and third-year doctoral candidate in school psychology, said these sessions are interesting because each one covers a variety of topics from writing skills, to finding a job.
“In the past, they focused primarily on the graduate student writing process. However, they now cover a variety of topics, such as writing and getting published, learning Refworks, writing literature reviews, and preparing for job interviews,” Boyd said. “We have several speakers from a variety of academic disciplines and we also provide lunch for students.”
The sessions usually last from three to six hours and though they are targeted at graduate students and held in the graduate school, they welcome interested undergraduate students.
“Attending a Tide Together boot camp session could expose an undergraduate student to the parameters of graduate school, whether that be learning about literature reviews or writing for publication. The information given is beneficial for students hoping to attend graduate school,” Boyd said.
The session will be held Friday from noon to 3 in Room 1012 of the North Engineering Research Center.
