Census forms due today
Census forms received in the mail should be completed and mailed back to the U.S. Census Bureau by April 1. Students must complete their own forms. The UA housing office will also distribute census forms to all campus dorms, collect the completed forms and turn them in to the Census Bureau. SLIS Edible Book Festival to be today
The UA School of Library Sciences Edible Book Festival will be tomorrow from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the SLIS Study (fifth floor of Gorgas Library). During the festival, the School will unveil the beautiful, limited-edition broadside that has been produced to raise money for the libraries in Haiti. The UA School of Library and Information Studies is seizing an opportunity to contribute something to benefit the people of Haiti. Master’s students in the library sciences and fine arts programs will work together to bring to life a Handmade Broadside featuring poetry by a Haitian writer and original art. The prints will be sold to help rebuild Haitian libraries.
UA School of Music presents world drumming ensembles
The UA School of Music presents World Drumming Ensembles in concert on Monday at 7:30 p.m. in the recital hall of the Moody Music Building. The concert will feature ethnic drumming from several different groups including the African Drumming Ensemble, a new performance group at the School of Music. They will perform traditional Ghanaian songs from the Ewe ethnic group called “Atsiagbekor” and “Gahu” in arrangements done by Daniel Marbury, a senior at UA and member of the group. Local colleges join for Unity Day
The UA SGA is teaming up with Stillman College and Shelton State Community College to sponsor the fourth annual Unity Day. The event will be held on Stillman’s campus on Friday, April 2 at 3 p.m. There will be free food, music, games and an opportunity to meet and socialize with all higher education students in Tuscaloosa. Unity Day will conclude with a balloon release in which each school will release balloons of their school colors mixing together in a representation of the bond to be made between the campuses.
There will also be a community service aspect to Unity Day that will take place on Wednesday at 4 p.m. at the local Boys and Girls Club chapter. All students from each campus are invited to participate.
Registration for charity golf tournament ends Sunday
The 2nd annual Rise and Shine Charity Golf Tournament will be held April 26. The Student Alumni Association and Alpha Tau Omega fraternity are co-hosting the event. Tournament proceeds will benefit UA’s RISE School and Student Leadership Scholarships sponsored by the SAA. Entry fees are $100 for current UA students, $125 per golfer and $500 per four-person team. WRC raises awareness of sexual violence with art exhibit
The UA Women’s Resource Center will host “Healing the Wounded Heart” art exhibit opening and reception on Thursday from 5 to 9 pm at Kentuck Art Gallery in downtown Northport in coordination with Sexual Assault Awareness Month. Attendees will have the chance to create their own heART piece for the exhibit during Kentuck’s Art Night at the reception. This free event is open to all students, faculty, staff and community members and will be held in the Kentuck Annex.

Silent Auction Held to Sponsor Crimson Build
Habitat for Humanity is teaming with the University to have the first build called “The Crimson Build.” To help with this build, there is going to be a silent art auction.
“My team and I volunteered to partner with Habitat for our projects class this semester,” said Robin McDaniel, a graduate student majoring in marketing. “It’s to support our local Habitat and this ‘crimson build’ which is associated to the university.”
The silent art auction will be from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Cypress Inn Loft, which is above Kuk’s Hot Dogs downtown.
According to a press release, there will be acoustic artists and the art that will be displayed are from local artists around Tuscaloosa. Some of the work featured will be Daniel Moore Print, an autographed Nick Saban portrait, Nancy Taylor Spa packages, Crosby Thomley Photography package and many more.
McDaniel said that her class has been working on organizing this the entire semester and that the event is open to anyone including students, staff and faculty. Food and drinks will also be provided from The Cypress Inn Restaurant.
