The Student Government Association will hold a special election Sept. 17 to fill one Senate seat for the College of Communication and Information Sciences, one seat in the College of Human Environmental Sciences and four seats for the graduate school.
The special election comes after Hannon Bulger, former senator for the College of Human Environmental Sciences and speaker of the Senate, and Alden Jipson, former senator in the College of Communication and Information Sciences, both resigned from their positions.
The graduate school positions were vacant to begin with, as candidate numbers were low during the election, according to SGA press secretary Counts Shanks.
Students interested in running for one of the positions must submit an online application and statement of candidacy during the candidacy filing period Aug. 25-29.
Candidates must then attend one of several virtual election orientation meetings that will be held daily Sept. 2-4 from 6:15-7:30 p.m.
“In addition to detailing the role and responsibilities of the available senate positions, the informational session will cover the election timeline, candidacy requirements, and campaign regulations,” an SGA press release said.
Voting will be open on myBama on Sept. 17 from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. for students in the College of Communication and Information Sciences, Human Environmental Sciences and the graduate school.
