The Black Warrior Brewing Co. will host its ninth annual charity Chili Cook-Off on Saturday, Jan. 25.
The event will bring chili lovers, local food judges and families together for an evening of flavor, fun and philanthropy supporting Tuscaloosa’s One Place, a nonprofit that provides resources and programs to strengthen family bonds and prevent child abuse.
All proceeds will go to support the organization’s programs.
“When we decided to host this event, we discovered that Tuscaloosa One Place is an excellent organization dedicated to empowering families to reach their full potential,” said Jason Spikes, co-owner and brewmaster of Black Warrior Brewing Co.
The Chili Cook-Off has become a highlight of the season, with past events showcasing a variety of creative recipes.
“In the past, white chicken chili and smoked venison chili have really stood out,” Spikes said.
Participants are asked to bring their best homemade chili, prepared in a 6-quart crockpot.
Registration is $20 per entry, and chili submissions are due at Black Warrior Brewing Co. by 4 p.m. on event day. Tasting starts at 5 p.m., and judges score each dish on flavor, aroma, appearance and texture.
Winners will take home trophies, Black Warrior Brewing Co. merchandise, and bragging rights.
For those not entering the competition, there’s still a way to participate in the event. At a cost of $10, attendees can sample each entry and vote for their favorite. Black Warrior Brewing Co. will provide tasting cups, spoons and tokens for voting.
“We are excited to bring the community together to support and learn about Tuscaloosa One Place and the wonderful programs they offer,” Spikes said.
