Nominations being accepted for Penny Allen Award
The Penny Allen Award recognizes one student and one non-student (faculty, staff or administrative personnel) who have made a significant contribution to student life at the University of Alabama. The School of Social Work and the Alabama Union Board of Governors established the award on this campus in honor of the late Sara Bell Penrod Allen.
Student must have at least a 3.0 GPA. Student must be an incoming junior or senior.
If you know of an individual you wish to nominate, the nomination forms can be found at ferguson.ua.edu under the applications tab. The completed nomination forms should be submitted to Office 356 in the Ferguson Center or sent to Box 870292 no later than Wednesday at noon. UA School of Music hosts upcoming piano events
The University of Alabama School of Music will host several piano events Friday through Monday. The weekend will begin with a competition and recital in celebration of the life and works of Robert Schumann and Frederic Chopin on the 200th anniversary of their birth.
The area competition for young pianists will be on Saturday from 1:30 to 5 p.m. in the Recital Hall of the Moody Music Building on the UA campus. There will be 11 contestants from all over the country that are in grades 7 through 12.
And the next Celebrity Series concert featuring pianist Spencer Myer will be held at 2 p.m. on Sunday. Tickets are $22 or $15 for general admission and student tickets are $7. Tickets can be purchased by calling the School of Music Box Office at 348-7111. They will also be available for sale starting one hour prior to the concert.
Myer will teach a master class on Monday at 10 a.m. in the Concert Hall. This event is free and open to the public.
New global studies certificate offered to students
Capstone International Academic Programs is now accepting applications for The Global Studies Certificate Program, an undergraduate certificate program requiring only 15 credit hours to complete. Beginning with CIP 200, Introduction to Global Studies, undergraduates will be able to achieve a greater global perspective and awareness through a variety of international studies courses.

Deadline close for PRSSA executive board member applications
Public Relations Student Society of America is accepting applications for executive board members until March 31. Applications can be downloaded from the Web site uaprssa.ua.edu or can be picked up in the PRSSA box in Phifer 412. Officer positions and descriptions are also available on the uaprssa.ua.edu site.

Student groups to host golf tournament for RISE
After raising nearly $6,000 last year, the Student Alumni Association and the UA chapter of Alpha Tau Omega fraternity are hosting the annual RISE & SHINE Golf Tournament.
The RISE & SHINE Golf Tournament is a charity tournament that benefits the UA RISE School. Also, a portion of the proceeds help fund two $500 Student leadership scholarships given out by the SAA each year.
This year’s RISE & SHINE Golf Tournament will be held April 26 at Bent Brook Golf Course in Birmingham. The entry fee is $125 per person or $500 per team. The fee for UA students is $100 per person. The tournament style is 4-man scramble. Registration and lunch will begin at 11 a.m., and a shotgun start will begin the tournament at 1 p.m. You can register as a team, or you can register as a single player and you will be placed on a team.
