As the light at the end of the COVID-19 tunnel started to shine, a new swell of cases and virus variants reminded us that we are not yet free from our pandemic nightmare. This reminder should ring especially loud for those who live in Alabama, the state with the lowest vaccination rate in the country at about 34%.
In the span of one week in March 2020, our lives turned upside down when the increasingly evident danger of the COVID-19 pandemic sent us into a world of nose swabs and social
distancing.
Adults asked you what you planned to study when you had just finished the first grade. Your parents may have started saving for college the day you were born. You have sacrificed sleepless nights of studying, immersed yourself in extracurriculars and gone on tours across the country just for this one moment.
Hopefully the stress of move-in has dissipated by the time you’re reading this, and you’ve started to explore the sprawling campus around you. And if you haven’t, what’s stopping you?
This year, resident assistants in traditional style dorms — Tutwiler, Paty, Parham, Burke and Harris — can expect freshman roommates. In any other year, RAs get a double occupancy room to themselves as a perk of the job, but this year presents a change.
