Bud Cauley finished his first tournament as a professional by tying for 63rd place at the U.S. Open this weekend at Congressional Country Club in Bethesda, Md. Cauley, a three-time first team All-American while at Alabama, recently turned professional after deciding to forego his senior season.
Cauley began the tournament with an early 8:01 a.m. tee-time on Thursday and had to start the tournament on one of the hardest holes: a 218-yard par-3 over water. With around 10,000 people watching him, Cauley’s first shot as a professional sailed onto the green en route for a two-putt to claim par on his first hole as a professional.
Cauley ended his first round at even 71, only a few strokes back from the start-to-finish leader and winner, Rory McIlroy, who dominated the U.S. Open to finish at 16 under for the tournament. But Cauley slipped up over the weekend and dropped to 9 over par, finishing tied for 63rd, bringing in his first professional check worth $18,620.
