PRACTICE REPORT: Jones takes first-team snaps in Monday practice

CW / Hannah Saad

Alabama spent its first practice of the week inside the Hank Crisp Indoor Facility on Monday afternoon. Here are our observations from practice:

As expected, Tua Tagovailoa was not seen at practice after having an operation on his injured ankle. With Tagovailoa absent, Mac Jones took the first reps for the quarterback warm up drills during the media viewing period.

Wide receiver DeVonta Smith was also absent for practice on Monday. The wide receiver did not sustain an injury during the game against Tennessee so it is unclear as to why he was not present. The rest of the receivers worked on different route patterns in pairs. Jerry Jeudy and Henry Ruggs III were the first pair to go through the drill followed by Jaylen Waddle and Tyrell Shavers.

After gingerly walking off the field and favoring his right knee, offensive lineman Evan Neal was participating in full during the media viewing period. Neal was in his usual spot at first team left guard as the lineman worked on individual blocking.

In other news, freshman running back Trey Sanders was spotted walking around the facility without a boot on his left foot. Sanders is not expected to return for the 2019 season after breaking his foot three weeks before the start of the season.
