PRACTICE REPORT: Team back at practice, prepares for Southern Miss
More stories from James Benedetto
After the team took a day off from practice on Monday, Alabama was back outside as it prepares to host Southern Mississippi. Here are our observations from Tuesday afternoon’s practice:
Terrell Lewis was taking it easy at practice today as he participated in some drills but not in others. With Lewis spending time during the media period with his helmet off, Christopher Allen worked with Anfernee Jennings as Ben Davis, Jerez Parks and King Mwikuta rotated through individual drills.
LaBryan Ray and Antonio Alfano were also not at practice. Ray underwent successful surgery on his foot which has been nagging him since fall camp. Alfano has been “missing from the team” according to Nick Saban with no further update on if he will transfer or not. Raekwon Davis, D.J. Dale, Justin Eboigbe, Stephon Wynn Jr. and the rest of the defensive lineman were all at practice today.
The team worked on its dime set in practice today. Jordan Battle and Jared Mayden were the first team safeties as Shyheim Carter moved down to Star. Patrick Surtain II, Trevon Diggs and Xavier McKinney were all in their normal spots. Josh Jobe, who was named the starting outside corner out of fall camp, was once again working with the second team.
The offensive line remained the same as Alex Leatherwood, Evan Neal, Chris Owens, Landon Dickerson and Jedrick Wills Jr. were the first group of five to take reps during the media viewing period. Toward the end of the viewing period, tight end Miller Forristall worked with the starters on run blocking.
