PRACTICE REPORT: Observations, notes from Tuesday’s practice
More stories from James Ogletree
Alabama continued its preparations for Saturday’s SEC opener against South Carolina with an outdoor practice on Tuesday afternoon. Here are our observations from the media viewing period:
Outside linebackers Anfernee Jennings and Terrell Lewis were both fully involved during the viewing period after Jennings wore sneakers and Lewis stood off the side on Monday. OLB coach Sal Sunseri was his usual self, yelling after one rep, “That’s not violent enough!”
Freshman defensive lineman Antonio Alfano was again not at practice as he deals with some “discipline things,” according to coach Nick Saban. Redshirt freshman Stephon Wynn Jr. wasn’t participating in the first drill and stood with his helmet off, but was involved in a different drill.
Offensive linemen Emil Ekiyor Jr. and Chris Owens were both present. Owens, who did not play in the last game, was participating in drills but Ekiyor was not.
The first-team nickel defense included Trevon Diggs and Patrick Surtain II at cornerback, Shyheim Carter at Star, and Jared Mayden and Xavier McKinney at safety. Diggs, who left Saturday’s game against New Mexico State with cramps, appears to be fine. McKinney had tape on his left wrist.
For the second team Jordan Battle was at safety with Daniel Wright, Mayden moved to Star, and the cornerback spots were held by Brandon Turnage, Jalyn Armour-Davis and Marcus Banks.
