Black Student Union creates community with students through trivia night

Students will get the chance to have fun and gain new information at the Black Student Union Game/Trivia night on Feb. 26.

Darnell Sharperson, a junior majoring in public relations and president of the Black Student Union, said BSU partnered with the Intercultural Diversity Center, and that they are doing the game night as a part of their week in support of Black History Month.

What: Black History Trivia/Game Night

Who: Black Student Union, Intercultural Diversity Center and any students interested in attending.

When: Tuesday, Feb. 26 from 7-9 p.m.

Where: The Intercultural Diversity Center, in the Riverside Annex on the First Floor

Why:

“[BSU week] is something that we do annually every Black History Month to give a little bit more attention to our programming and also create community amongst our members,” Sharperson said.

Sharperson said not only does the BSU want to create a community amongst their members, but also with any students interested in joining BSU.

“We just want to celebrate and really hone in on what Black History Month means to each one of us individually and as a collective group,” Sharperson said.

Sharperson said BSU members decided to do a trivia game night because they like to just have fun sometimes. He said there would be topics in the trivia about black history, but they will also dive into historical black figures at The University of Alabama and how the University’s personal history connects to black history.

“I am excited to see who actually knows what they are talking about and who’s going to come out as the champion,” Sharperson said.

Sharperson said with the new information gained from the trivia, he expects the students will use that information in the world to produce more knowledge and create new and diverse experiences for themselves.
