The Alabama women’s tennis team improved to 8-0 as it beat both Kennesaw State and Lipscomb 4-0 during Sunday’s doubleheader. This doubleheader marked the fourth of the season and concluded the four-match weekend for Alabama.

“We have a really fit team and I think that’s one of our strengths,” coach Jenny Mainz said in a press release. “We’ve worked a lot on that in the offseason and I think its paying dividends in a long weekend like this. This is the fourth match of the weekend and its taxing, both physically and emotionally, it’s a long day at the office for the players.”

The Crimson Tide started the day against Kennesaw State and won all doubles matches 6-1 and swept all of its singles matches. No. 47 senior Andie Daniell easily defeated her opponent 6-0, 6-0 and sophomore Moka Ito cruised to a 6-1, 6-0 victory. The match was clinched when junior Ann Selim won 6-0, 6-0 on court five.

In the second match of the day, Alabama continued its dominate play against Lipscomb. It kept its doubles point streak of eight alive by winning matches on court one and three. The trio of juniors Alba Cortina Pou, Luca Fabian, and Jacqueline Pelletier all won their matches to secure the win.

“I thought we responded really well,” Mainz said. “Lipscomb is a good team, they’re solid, they fought hard, I thought they competed well and they didn’t go away. So I think it was a really good test for us, we had to finish.”

Alabama will look to improve their record to 9-0 against UCF on Friday in the Alabama Tennis Stadium.
