The University of Alabama’s Transportation Services suspended the enforcement of an evening parking pass that was set to be implemented this semester while a master plan for parking on campus is concluded.

If an individual has a valid 2018-2019 parking permit, then they will not see changes regarding where to park on campus at any time. However, if a person does not have a valid permit, free parking will remain available after 6 p.m. for anyone wanting to use the school’s facilities.

According to Bama Parking, a working group of staff representatives, faculty and students will be responsible for managing an in-depth evaluation of parking on campus to provide a better process for reviewing, assessing and proposing parking changes.

Kayanna McKenzie, a sophomore majoring in nursing, said the continuation of free late-night parking benefits her, because she often goes to the library to study.

“I am glad I am still able to park anywhere on campus after a certain time period, because most times I am in the library studying for hours at night,” McKenzie said.

Kristianna Davison, a junior majoring in public health, said she is also relieved she is still able to park anywhere on campus at night because she likes to exercise at the Student Recreation Center.

“Most times I go to the recreational center at night, so I am glad this will not affect my workout schedule,” Davison said.
