Alabama fell to Northeastern 68-52 in the opening round of the Charleston Classic on Thursday afternoon.  The Crimson Tide fell behind early, and could never recover, never getting within seven points of the Huskies.

John Petty Jr. led Alabama in scoring with 17 points, but the rest of Alabama’s roster had difficulty scoring. As a team, the Crimson Tide shot just 37.3 percent from the field and only 15.8 percent (3-of-19) from beyond the arc.

Alabama trailed 33-22 at the half due to its slow start.

“First of all, you have to take your hat off to Northeastern,” Alabama head coach Avery Johnson said in a press release. “They played a balanced game today on both ends of the floor. I thought they did a good job of mixing up their defenses and shot the ball extremely well. We didn’t have our best day on either end of the floor.”

Alabama did outrebounded Northeastern 27-25 and managed a 7-0 edge in points off turnovers.

Dazon Ingram contributed nine points and five rebounds off the bench while Herbert Jones chipped in eight points and three rebounds.

The Crimson Tide (2-1) will take the floor again Friday afternoon it plays Ball State at 12:30 p.m. CT on ESPNU.
