What: The University of Alabama School of Law is hosting the discussion, “Tolerance Means Dialogue.” At this session, students will be able to share their voice about issues surrounding faith, sexuality and families. The topic of the session will be “Religion and Gay Marriage: Do They Have to Be at Odds? Can University Students Make a Difference?”

Who: Professor William N. Eskridge Jr., John A. Garver Professor of Jurisprudence at Yale Law School, and Robin Fretwell Wilson, Roger and Stephany Joslin Professor of Law at the University of Illinois will speak.

When: Oct. 18 at noon

Where: Bedsole Moot Court Room (Room 140) in The University of Alabama Law School

Why: “We are trying to get people thinking about how we can live together as one people,” Wilson said. “What we are trying to do is to get people to see each other as real people and to understand that the laws around our issues is making it harder for us to live together as one people.”

Students can compete in an essay competition on what tolerance means to them. A scholarship of $750 will be awarded the two winning essayists, and then they will participate in the dialogue on stage.
