Alabama fell to LSU 2-0 Thursday in Baton Rouge despite outshooting the Tigers throughout the contest.

LSU opened the scoring early in the first half when Alex Thomas’s pass found the feet of Adrienne Richardson to knock home the game’s opening goal just five minutes in.

Desperate to find the equalizer, Alabama through bodies forward to start the second half. Senior forward Abbie Boswell put four shots on frame to lead the charge, finishing the match with eight shots.

Richardson doubled the Tigers’ advantage in the 64th minute to record her sixth of the season. The Crimson Tide, determined not to be beat again, locked down the back line and only allowing one more shot over the final 10 minutes of play.

Alabama’s best opportunity of the match came in the 85th minute when Casey Wertz nearly connected with Riley Mattingly for her second headed attempt of the game.

Alabama finished the match with 11 shots on goal from 20 attempts, forcing a number of big saves from LSU keeper, Caroline Brockmeier.

The result sees Alabama fall to 0-4 in conference play, 6-6-1 overall, while the Tigers record their first conference win, improving to 1-2-1 in SEC play, 7-4-1 overall. Alabama will retake the field in a week’s time when it hosts Kentucky on Oct. 4.
