This Saturday, March 24, runners will lace up their shoes and hit the road for a cause. The Tuscaloosa Half Marathon and the Mayor’s Cup 5K plan to continue raising money to benefit the community.
The half marathon will begin at 7:30 a.m. on Saturday, March 24 at Government Plaza. Throughout the last five years, the Tuscaloosa Half Marathon has raised $226,200 for the local charities Read BAMA Read, Arts ‘n Autism and The Kiwanis Club of Greater Tuscaloosa. This year, those involved hope to continue their fundraising efforts and enjoy even more success by partnering with the Mayor’s Cup 5K, which begins on the same day at 8 a.m. and supports the Tuscaloosa Pre-K Initiative.
The current registration fee to participate in the half marathon is $90, and race packets can be picked up the day before the race (Friday, March 23) at Government Plaza from 4 p.m.-8 p.m. Or, runners can pick up their packets from 5:45 a.m.-7:15 a.m. the morning of the race. Overall winners and age group winners will be awarded prize money in the form of gift cards and a winner’s jacket. The registration fee for the Mayor’s Cup 5K is $25.
