What: Public viewing night to observe the sky through equipment provided by the Department of Physics and Astronomy.

Observers will be able to see the full Moon, Saturn and Albireo, which Jimmy Irwin, associate professor in the Department of Physics and Astronomy, described as a “double star with contrasting colors—one blue, one orange.” 

Who: The nights are open to the public, hosted by the Department of Physics and Astronomy and feature varying speakers.

When: Friday, Oct. 6. 7:30-9:30 p.m.

All of the nights are contingent upon adequate weather.

Where: The roof of Gallalee Hall. 

Why: “People like to look at the sky; few people leave unhappy,” Irwin said. “We have this nice resource on the roof, so rather than only using it for teaching and research projects, why not share it with the community and students?”
