Alabama cornerback Levi Wallace was named SEC Defensive Player of the Week, the league office announced on Monday. It is the first time Wallace has won the award.
Wallace shined in Alabama’s 66-3 victory over Ole Miss. The former walk-on had two interceptions with one of them being returned for a touchdown- the first of his career. His pick six was the 60th non-offensive touchdown of Nick Saban’s tenure at Alabama.
Wallace was key in Alabama’s stout defensive performance on Saturday. The Rebels averaged 427 passing yards a game before their matchup with Alabama, but only threw for 165 against the Crimson Tide.
Wallace is currently tied for the SEC lead in interceptions and is second in pass deflections.
