Sarah Praskievicz, an assistant professor in the geography department, will speak at the Association for Women in Science’s monthly meeting on Thursday. Praskievicz will discuss her research in the geography field, how she got to where she is professionally, and give advice to those trying to pursue a career in academic science.
Attendees will also hear from the executive board and have time to network with each other.
What: Association for Women in Science meeting
Who: Open to the public
When: Thursday, Sept. 21 from 6:30 – 8 p.m.
Where: 1092 Shelby Hall
Why: “I think, for one thing, it’s important to develop a network of women in science – including both undergrad students, grad students, faculty and professionals – so that we can mentor one another and pass on what we’ve learned to the next generation,” Praskievicz said. “And also it’s important just for everyone, not just for women, to develop professional development skills, so to learn about things like how to get funding, how to publish, how to put together a [curriculum vitae], how to interview, these are skills that everyone can benefit from.”
