WHO: WHAT: A training session for volunteers of the organization.
WHEN: Thursday from 6:00-7:30 p.m.
WHY: The West Alabama Clinic Defenders is an organization dedicated to protecting access to reproductive care for all people in West Alabama. Helmi Kenkin, a senior psychology and French student at the University of Alabama and chair of West Alabama Clinic Defenders, said that defenders will be trained to protect patients of the West Alabama Women’s Center abortion clinic from harassment by protestors, provide patients emotional support and escort them from their vehicles to ensure they safely make it inside of the clinic.
“Defenders are able to protect patients of the clinic and their companions from harassment by anti-choice protesters and give them emotional support as they endure one of the most difficult experiences of their lives,” Henkin said. “Being a defender has enriched my life in more ways than I could have imagined when I first started and I think it is an incredibly rewarding volunteer opportunity for anyone passionate about reproductive justice.”
