A tornado watch has been issued for The University of Alabama and Tuscaloosa County until 8 p.m. Thursday, according to an alert from the University.

In case of a tornado warning, students and faculty on campus may find refuge at the North Campus Storm Shelter, East Campus Storm Shelter and the Magnolia Parking Deck. Maps of these locations are available here. Students and staff unable to get to a shelter should find the lowest level of the nearest building until informed of changing weather, according to the alert.

In preparation for severe weather, the National Weather Service suggests that people should watch out for “dark, rotating clouds, avoid unnecessary car trips” and pay attention to their TV, phone or radio. During instances of severe weather, the NWC says to remain in a sheltered area and stay away from windows until it subsides.

This story will be updated as more information becomes available.
