The Alabama women’s basketball team takes over the Coleman Coliseum for its upcoming 2016-17 season, which officially starts on Nov. 4 with a home matchup against West Alabama.
This time around, the Crimson Tide will also participate in the SEC/Big 12 challenge when it plays Kansas on Dec. 4.
The SEC part of the schedule starts the new year off on the road against preseason No. 2 South Carolina, which will be aired on ESPN 2. Alabama’s first SEC home game is against Ole Miss on Jan. 5.
Alabama has a tough three-game home stand starting on Jan. 12 when the preseason No. 12 Kentucky comes to town. The stand finishes with No. 15 Mississippi State on Jan. 19.
For women’s basketball fans, the most important games of the year are the two Iron Bowls. Auburn comes to Tuscaloosa on Jan. 29 to face Alabama. Then, the home-court advantage switches when Alabama goes to Auburn on Feb. 20.
The Crimson Tide’s season finishes off with a matchup against Missouri on Feb. 26.
March 1 is the official start date of the SEC tournament.
Last season, the Crimson Tide finished with a 16-14 record in the regular season, after winning 10 of its first 11 games. The team’s SEC record, however, was just 4-12.
Alabama lost its lone game in the SEC tournament last season against LSU, and it lost a heartbreaking game against Tulane in the women’s NIT tournament.
Last season’s road-home splits were really what determined the Crimson Tide’s success. At home, Alabama won 14 of 18 games last season. However, on the road the team struggled without a single win.
The Crimson Tide plays 19 home games this season, though, compared to nine road games.
