The Huxford Symphony Orchestra, one of 14 ensembles in the School of Music’s program, will perform a concert tonight at 7:30 p.m. at the Concert Hall in Moody Music Building. Tickets are $3 for students with an ID, $10 for general admission and $3 for seniors.
Tonight’s concert is one of six that will be performed by the Huxford Symphony Orchestra this school year. The orchestra is open to all students, both to music majors and those in other majors. They rehearse for two hours every week, and the students receive course credit for playing in the orchestra.
According to the School of Music’s website, this year the orchestra will perform a number of renowned works including Dvorak’s Symphony no. 8, Gershwin’s American in Paris and Hindemith’s Symphonic Metamorphosis. The orchestra will also later collaborate with Tuscaloosa Symphony Orchestra and the University of Alabama Opera Theatre department.
The orchestra offers an opportunity for students to hear classical music at an affordable price, and tonight’s performance is one of a limited number this year. Tickets can be purchased online at uamsuic.tix.com.
