In the last 19 innings Alabama had only scored five runs total leading up to the Saturday game against ULM. Saturday’s 6-3 win was a different story.
Alabama started the game off fast, scoring three runs by the end of the second inning. It started with a pair of hits, a single by Cody Henry and a double by Kyle Kaufman. Henry would score on a balk by ULM pitcher Keegan Curtis. Kaufman would score on a sacrifice fly to right field hit by Chandler Taylor. Alabama would add another run coming off an RBI double by Chandler Avant.
Alabama would score three runs again in the sixth inning, coming off a two run double off the bat of pinch hitter Sam Finnerty, moving Avant to third, where he would later score on a wild pitch. Avant would finish 3-for-4.
“I think the biggest difference for us know is that we aren’t having one guys with a quality at bat per inning,” head coach Greg Goff said. “We are constantly putting some hits together and giving us a chance to score some runs.”
Alabama’s starter, Jake Walters, shut down the Warhawks through his six innings of work. He allowed just two runs off six hits and struck out four in his second win of the year.
“Coming off the win last night we had a lot of positive energy,” Walters said. “I was trying to induce some early contact.”
Garrett Suchey would pitch the last three innings allowing a single base runner. He finished with four strike outs and the save.
“He has really grown a lot in the last few months,” Goff said. “He’s definitely a guy we can trust to bridge the gap to [Davis] Vainer.” Goff said
ULM starter Keegan Curtis would finish with the loss. He would pitch 5.1 innings allowing six runs off 11 hits in the loss.
